About the Festival: The Apple Core Project in partnership with the Rimrocker Historical Society created the Heritage Harvest Festival six years ago to celebrate the West End of Montrose and San Miguel’s Counties heritage fruit and veggie history. Heritage fruit along with pressing apples, singing and dancing was a large part of the homesteader’s life in our region during the turn of the century. We feel that this celebration of agriculture through an event, free to the public, has been very successful. We’ve grown the event year over year by marketing to Telluride, Grand Junction, Moab, Paonia, Dolores, and Durango. During the event we display all of the apple varieties found in our region, press apples, conduct an heirloom veggie contest in partnership with CSU Extension office, sell apples and apple pies, offer kids games, horseshoes, and provide music, dancing, hard cider and beer tasting, a cake walk and so much more.
